Central Baptist Hospital has embarked on an ambitious on-campus replacement and expansion project in Lexington, KY. Along with major expansions and moves for Women’s Services, a new Main Entrance and Dietary facilities, ICU and Inpatient beds to all-private and significant site improvements and parking, the design effort included the relocation and growth of the Cancer Center from 23,500 gsf to 58,500 gsf, enabling Central Baptist to develop a state of the art diagnostic and treatment facility with Radiation Therapy including 2 Linacs and a Cyberknife, Chemotherapy Infusion with 30 stations, Clinic with 27 exam rooms, Resource Library and Quality of Care center.
The Cancer Center has its own entry and lobby, which connects to all other patient entry points enabling much easier and simpler wayfinding for all patients throughout the facility. The dedicated, 2 story lobby is brightly lit with abundant natural light, even down to the basement level where there is a meditative courtyard for radiation therapy patients. Waiting areas for all services connect vertically with an opening and dedicated elevator. Infusion patients have an outdoor courtyard also, bringing natural light into the area where these patients can be stationed for many hours. The Clinic is designed in a multi-disciplinary approach so patients do not have to make as many trips back to see different specialists. The site also continues with a healing approach at the entry, to a labyrinth and meditative greenspace adjacent.
