OakBend Medical Center has expanded into a new 3 story, 57 bed community hospital campus at Williams Way in Richmond, TX. Designed to expand to 234 beds, the 16.6 acre campus provides full hospital services with specialties for Women. The new campus also includes a connected medical office building. The hospital, positioned directly off a major highway, is easily accessible and visibility of the hospital was an important requirement. To increase visibility and to give the hospital a “larger feel” a 3-story glass atrium is centrally focused in the facility. Nurse’s stations look over the atrium and share in its abundant natural light. At night the internally illuminated atrium provides a distinct image and identity seen from the highway. Natural light also reaches non-traditional spaces including physician lounges, operating rooms, lab and the pharmacy. The master plan allows for three future patient floors, incremental expansion on the first floor, a future parking garage and a second medical office building.
