Eager to expand its services but restricted by the confined parameters of the current location, hospital administrators elected to build a new, state−of−the−art healthcare campus on the former Fitzsimons Army Medical Base in Aurora, CO. The Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion, a 476,000−square−foot 12−story tower, provided for 300 patient rooms, urgent care facilities, laboratories, pharmacy, and surgery along with diagnostic capabilities. This Phase 2 project was designed to attach and communicate with the existing Phase 1 Anschutz Outpatient Pavilion.
Planned as a four−phase development, the new University of Colorado Hospital campus will ultimately include over 750 beds, consisting of nearly 2 million square− feet of facilities with a construction value over $500 million. The master plan for the campus will include over $2 billion construction value when completed.
