Munroe-Meyer Institute

Munroe-Meyer Institute serves a population with a large variety of disabilities and complex healthcare needs. Their goal is to be world leaders in transforming the lives of all individuals with disabilities and complex healthcare needs, their families and the community through outreach, engagement, premier educational programs, innovative research and extraordinary patient care.

The new building opened in June 2021 and houses many different departments with unique needs including an Early Intervention Preschool setting for patients on the autism spectrum, Caring For Champions Program, a collaboration with Special Olympics that will provide vision and dental services and a weight management program, Severe Behavior Department, Rec Therapy that offers a summer camp program, Speech, OT, PT, Outpatient Services, Pediatric Feeding, a therapy pool, a mock apartment for learning independence of living on your own, and indoor gym.

This wide range of services and patient populations requires a very unique and specialized facility that not only accommodates the patients but also the families. Special focus on the buildings impact on sensory feedback was a primary concern during the design. Lighting, sounds, colors, textures all required special attention throughout the facility and was carefully controlled through acoustical treatments, color changes dimmable lighting and proper material selections.
